All-new Fuso Canter goes on sale in Japan
Due to replace the current range in Europe some time in the last quarter of 2011, the all-new Mitsubishi Fuso Canter gets an exterior makeover, redesigned chassis frame, improved suspension and brakes — including an engine brake as standard — updated cab and new engine line-up. It also gets a Duonic twin-clutch semi-auto gearbox as part of the package. This is similar in conception to the DSG ’box available on Volkswagen’s Transporter and new Caddy.
The new engines are based on the current 175hp/430Nm 3-litre turbodiesel powering the recently introduced 7.5-tonner. Developed in conjunction with Fiat Powertrain Technology — Iveco versions can be specified on the Daily — they feature a variable geometry turbo and the BlueTec exhaust emissions control system. This combines Selective Catalytic Reduction, which requires AdBlue (a solution of urea) to function, with a Diesel Particulate Filter to surpass Euro 5 regulations easily. In conjunction with the Duonic transmission Fuso claims a fuel consumption improvement of between five and eight per cent compared to the current line-up.
Mitsubishi Fuso is 85 per cent owned by Daimler and Canters are sold through the Mercedes-Benz Trucks dealer network in the UK.
