Ashwoods Hybrid Drive picks up three awards
The fuel-saving Hybrid Drive System developed by Ashwoods Automotive has won three Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Innovation Awards, which recognise the most creative companies operating within a wide variety of engineering and technology disciplines. Attracting a record 420 entries from around the world, the awards provide industry innovators an opportunity to demonstrate their skill and imagination. There were 15 categories overall, including asset management, telecommunications and product design, with the Hybrid Drive System picking up gongs in the Power/Energy, Sustainability and Transport categories.
Demonstrating an innovation that not only has a significant impact on society, but also a financial impact at a business level, the Hybrid Drive System works by taking wasted energy from braking and decelerating and storing it a battery to be fed back into the drive system. Designed as an alternative to low-range, high-cost Electric Vehicles, it is fully commercialised and used by over 35 companies including Royal Mail, BT, TFL and NHS.“To even have been nominated in categories alongside some fantastic companies is a real honour,” said Martin Kadhim, Business Development, Ashwoods Automotive. “We’ve tirelessly developed our technologies for commercial purposes, not just for innovation’s sake, we’ve taken this product from innovation to commercialisation and it’s great to be recognised in this way.”
