Ashwoods strikes gold in Cleantech Awards

ashwoods-transit-2By increasing its turnover nearly 10-fold in three years Ashwoods Automotive, developers of a LCV hybrid drive system, really caught the eye of the Cleantech Connect judges. It was named as the fastest growing clean technology company in Europe.

The Hybrid Drive system can be fitted to any rear-wheel drive Ford Transit in under four hours. It delivers an instant
15 – 25 per cent reduction in fuel consumption, depending on the drive cycle.

Ashwoods Automotive MD Mark Roberts said: “This award, and the growth that delivered it, further validates our business strategy of producing practical, affordable low carbon vehicle technologies. Fleet managers want technology they can implement today, so that is where we focus all our efforts.”

As the single largest supplier to the Low Carbon Vehicle Procurement Programme — subsidised by the taxpayer — Ashwoods is supplying 137 out of 200 low carbon vans to public sector companies including the Environment Agency and the Royal Mail.

The Scottish Department for Transport has also been persuaded to accept the Hybrid Drive system as eligible for a similar £3.6m scheme north of the border.
