BMW develops 420hp V8 M3 pick-up truck
BMW doesn’t produce light commercial vehicles; it does now. The stunning M3 Pickup was unveiled at a press conference in Germany on 1 April, but it’s no joke.Based on an M3 Convertible it has a removable Targa top covering the two-seater cab, is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 capable of producing 420hp and can handle a 450kg payload. It features a conventional bottom-hinged tailgate, the load bed is lined with aluminium and it can accommodate up to 20 golf bags. It’s also fitted with a tow bar, something that no other M3 has offered in 25 years of production.
Weighing 70kg less than the standard car it’s been clocked at 186mph and is fully road-legal. That makes it the first official light commercial vehicle BMW has ever produced. Unfortunately there are no plans to put it into production. It will remain a one-off and no doubt highly collectable.
