Best ever global CV sales for VW in 2011
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has posted its best ever global sales figures of 479,000 for the last 11 months — a rise of 22.9 per cent on the same period last year — with Caddy, our current Van of the Year, leading the way on 146,100, an increase of 26 per cent.Western Europe played its part in the success with total sales of 261,20, representing a 17.7 per cent improvement, but South America is the headline story with an increase of 22.8 per cent, taking it to 126,600. South America is a strange market where VW still sells the old rear-engined Transporter T2 in Brazil, alongside a Polo-based half-tonne pick-up called the Saveiro (see pics below).
The current Transporter T5 range increased its global sales by 5.6 per cent to 139,900 units, while Crafter rose by 4.1 per cent to 34,600 sold worldwide. VW’s all-new one-tonne 4x4 Amarok pick-up got off to a great start with global sales of 60,200 during the last 11 months.
“This means that until now we have already sold around 40,000 more commercial vehicles than in the whole of 2010,” said Harald Schomburg, member of the brand board of management of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles for sales and marketing. “All our ranges have sold extremely well in 2011 and together with our dedicated and specialised dealers and importers we significantly improved our position.”
