Chevy Colorado Concept debuts in Europe
Chevrolet pulled the covers off its new Colorado pick-up Rally Concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It gives an insight into what we can expect when production versions are launched throughout Europe in the final quarter of 2012.Designed as a Rally Raid concept, it has large headlamps with LED lighting elements, Chevrolet's signature dual-port grille, a sculpted bonnet and muscular fibreglass wheelarch extensions. Additional lights are set into the leading edge of the roof and into the door mirrors, acrylic rally car windows with air inlets and front and rear tow hooks underscore the Colorado’s off-road credentials.
Power comes from a 2.8-litre turbodiesel and it sports two 5.5hp winches that have been incorporated into its front and rear bumpers. Production versions of this new double cab pick-up are likely to have either a 2.2-litre or 3.0-litre diesel under the bonnet by the time they reach the market.
Wayne Brannon, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe said: “Chevrolet has built trucks right from the start and they are an essential part of our brand. Through its purposeful design, refinement and uncompromising capability, the Colorado Rally Concept creatively reinterprets our proud heritage.”Next year is going to be a busy one in the pick-up market. There’s the all-new Ford Ranger launching at the very end of 2011 — and maybe even Mazda’s version, the BT-50 — SsangYong is introducing the SUT-1 in the first quarter, closely followed by an all-new range of Isuzu Rodeos and last, but not least, we’ll be getting the Chevy Colorado towards the end of 2012.
