Citroën Berlingo updated for 2014

citroen-berlingo-2013-news3Citroën has made detail powertrain, cab, external and payload revisions to its Berlingo light van range for the 2014 model year. The changes will take place from November 2013 production.

Externally it gains a new chrome grille, re-designed side rubbing strips and revised side skirts, while in the cab all Berlingo vans and platform cabs gain a full-width storage shelf above the windscreen, complete with map reading lights for driver and passenger. Payloads have been improved across the range; as an example the 90hp HDi manual L1 850 models now have a maximum gross payload of 896kg. A Trafficmaster telematics package, including Smartnav satellite navigation and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking, remains a standard-fit feature.

1.6hdiUnder the bonnet, latest generation Berlingo L1 vans powered by the 90hp HDi diesel benefit from an improved combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 56.5mpg, equating to a reduction in CO2 emissions from 138g/km to 132g/km. Berlingo L2 90hp e-HDi Airdream manual vans manage to return improved figures of 57.6mpg and 128g/km.

Additionally, the EGS6 automated manual gearbox available on Airdream models will be replaced by a new ETG6 (6-speed Efficient Tronic Gearbox) semi-auto transmission. Developed to provide improved driveability, it features optimised pedal mapping to adjust power effectively for smoother standing starts and acceleration. Gearchange speeds are modulated more precisely — based on driver input — for improved performance and comfort, and gearshift patterns have been optimised to improve fuel-efficiency. ESP, including traction control with Hill Start Assist, a passenger airbag, cruise control with driver-adjustable speed limiter and a new Gear Shift Indicator come as standard on ETG6 variants.

“The latest changes to the Berlingo will enable this popular model to maintain its position at the top of the sales charts,” said Scott Michael, Citroën UK’s head of Commercial Vehicles. “In the first three quarters of this year the Berlingo outsold all of its competitors in the up to 2.5 tonne GVW light van category, proof of its continuing popularity and versatility. Operators of both large and small fleets appreciate the Berlingo’s excellent fuel economy of up to 62.8mpg, low running costs and wide choice of models.”
