Citroën ramps-up Relay power for Euro 5
Following on from the launch of the Euro 5 Nemo earlier this year, Citroën has moved to the next stage with the introduction of the first Euro 5 Relay diesel engine. Available from the end of June the 177hp 3.0-litre replaces the 157hp 3.0HDi in the current line-up of 3.5 tonne vans and chassis cabs.Maximum torque remains the same at 400Nm, but now peaks at 1,400rpm, 300rpm lower than its predecessor. Official combined cycle fuel consumption of 33.2mpg represents an improvement of 9.2 per cent and equates to CO2 emissions of 224g/km.
“The new low emission and fuel efficient Euro 5 HDi 180-powered Relay models will be welcomed by operators needing the benefits of both high payload and load hauling performance, mated with optimum levels of fuel efficiency. We are confident that when the complete Euro 5 Relay range is available later this year it will offer very high standards of fuel efficiency and low emissions, which will make it amongst the cleanest and greenest in its class,” said Scott Michael, Citroën’s commercial vehicles operations manager.
The Euro 5 upgrade brings with it a price increase. As an example a 35 L3H2 3.0HDi six-speed manual van now has a basic price of £25,590, a rise of £500. The 2.2-litre powerplants in the Relay range will be updated to Euro 5 in the coming months; September at the latest.
