Citroën takes entire LCV range to Euro 5
As part of its ‘Citroën Vans – Business Class’ initiative, introduced at the beginning of the year, Citroën has launched its fuel-efficient ‘5 Star’ Euro 5 LCV Programme and taken its entire van line-up to Euro 5. All the new models feature a self-regenerating Diesel Particulate Filter and join the Euro 5 Nemo which went on sale earlier this year.Berlingo remains available with a choice of 1.6-litre petrol (95hp) or diesel (75/90hp) engines and although the power and peak torque figures are the same as the diesel predecessors, the latter kick in at 1,500rpm. That’s 250rpm earlier than previously to provide greater driveability. The combined cycle fuel consumption of 54.3 and 52.3mpg for the HDi 75 and 90 engines respectively represents an improvement of up to 9.5 per cent. CO2 emissions have reduced to 136 (HDi 75) and 140g/km (HDi 90).
The new Berlingo derivatives with the 90hp e-HDi Airdream micro-hybrid powertrain, which has been brought over from passenger cars and adds a very reasonable £150, includes Stop & Start and an energy regeneration system. It offers even better combined fuel consumption of up to 60.1mpg and CO2 figures as low as 123g/km. As standard Berlingo comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, but a six-speed automated manual EGS6 ’box can be specified as an alternative on both body length Airdream models at a £550 premium.
Move up the Citroën LCV weight scale and revised Dispatch uses the same new 90hp 1.6HDi as Berlingo, which runs alongside an upgraded 125hp version of the 2.0HDi, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. This gains 20Nm of peak torque compared to its Euro 4 predecessor, taking it to 320Nm. Combined cycle fuel consumption for the 1.6 is 40.9mpg, rising to 41.5mpg for the 2.0HDi. A six-seater Crew Van is being added to the existing line-up.
Introduced to the Relay range in the summer, the 180hp 3.0HDi Euro 5 has been joined by a more powerful 110hp derivative of the 2.0HDI, along with 130hp and a brand new 150hp version of the 2.2HDi. Combined cycle fuel figures are all improved over the Euro 4 HDis they replace and CO2 outputs are all below 200g/km. Six-speed manual gearboxes are standard across the range.Trafficmaster Smartnav and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking is standard equipment on all Berlingo, Dispatch and Relay panel vans. And don’t forget that Citroën offers a seriously extensive range of off-the-shelf conversions as part of its Ready to Run programme.
“The launch of our 5 Star Euro 5 programme offers a significant step forward for LCV operators,” said Scott Michael, Citroën’s commercial vehicle operations manager. “It demonstrates Citroën’s unique and all-embracing approach to improving the efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of our LCVs. Since the introduction earlier this year of the ‘Business Class’ programme, Citroën has continued to improve its sales and aftersales service, as well as providing a greater choice of converted vehicles through both our Relay Specialist model range and our expanded Ready to Run range. With the Citroën 5 Star Euro 5 programme our customers can now benefit from further fuel efficiency improvements of up to 19 per cent and CO2 reductions of up to 17.5 per cent.”
