DFSK Loadhopper microvan launches in UK
Vestatec Automotive Distribution has begun selling Chinese manufacturer DFSK’s Loadhopper microvans and mini trucks in the UK and Ireland. The Swindon-based company has set up DFSK UK specifically to import and distribute the microvans and is an established automotive parts manufacturer and aftermarket distributor of vehicle components to blue chip car manufacturers. Loadhopper is available initially as a Van, single or double cab Pick-up and single cab three-way Tipper. All models are powered by the same 77hp 1.3-litre Euro 5 petrol engine, but there are plans to introduce diesel and electric options in 2012, along with Minibuses. Another model, called V-Series, will also be introduced next year.
Just like the now-defunct Piaggio Porter (Daihatsu Hijet) and Suzuki Carry, the Loadhopper Van comes with twin sliding side doors and a top-hinged rear tailgate, and has a remarkably tight turning circle of 8.8m. It offers in excess of 3.0m3 of load space and a gross payload of 590kg. Load length is 3,795mm, maximum width is 1,560mm and height is 1,925mm. Payload for the single cab Pick-up is an impressive 930kg.DFSK UK is looking to recruit 40 dealers — 26 have already been appointed — and the majority will be bolt-ons to existing franchises. Loadhopper comes with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty as standard; the first two years with unlimited mileage. All vehicles are subject to a £499 delivery charge which covers delivery costs, first service at 1,000 miles or two months — whichever comes first — PDI, Government Road Fund Licence and First Registration Fee.
Dealers will be offering a three-year Loadhopper Care Plan which covers labour costs and standard service items, in addition to roadside assistance, for the first three services at £399 (excl VAT).Basic prices (excl VAT) start at £6,999 for the single cab Pick-up, peaking at £9,999 for the three-way Tipper. The Van will set you back £7,999 and a double cab Pick-up comes in at £8,999.
DFSK UK executive chairman Jim Tyrrell said: “This is a tremendous opportunity. We are entering a new phase in the history of the UK vehicle market with the arrival of the first Chinese vehicles. We believe we have found an outstanding partner in terms of product range and vision for the future."
