EU van sales show growth in 2011
Following a 5.4 per cent month-on-month rise in December, sales of LCVs up to 3.5t in 2011 across the EU record significant average year-on-year growth compared to 2010, mirroring the trend set by the UK. Official figures are provided by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), the EU equivalent of our own SMMT.A total of 1,586,255 new vans were registered in 2011, representing a rise of 7.0 per cent, but these figures are still lagging way behind those of the pre-2009 era before the banking system threw itself down the toilet and then pleaded poverty. The German market grew by 18.8 per cent, closely followed by the UK on 16.7 per cent (see News Story) with France lagging behind on 2.7 per cent. Italy and Spain, however, recorded a decline of 6.1 and 10.1 per cent respectively.
