FairFuelUK campaign piles on the pressure
Following the Budget and the 1p/litre drop in fuel tax the Government remained silent in the face of ever-rising fuel costs. In south west London Diesel is currently around 140p/litre; that’s £6.36/gallon. It’s simply not good enough. The FairFuelUK campaign, fronted by motoring pundit Quentin Willson, was instrumental in forcing the Government to back down on the proposed rise in fuel tax in the last Budget, but it’s not stopping there. The price of a barrel of oil is still climbing and the campaign is stepping up a gear as the Government continues to mug businesses. Without vans delivering stuff, UK PLC would grind to a halt quicker than Cameron changes his mind based on the latest opinion poll.
It has three basic aims. Firstly, to try to stop all further duty rises on fuel in this Parliament and secondly, to achieve parity with Europe in terms of fuel tax; UK drivers pay 24p/litre more on average than our EU colleagues. Last, but not least, to set up an effective fair fuel price stabiliser.
If you haven’t already done so, sign the petition. If we do nothing we only have ourselves to blame. Apart from the three Bs, of course; Blair, Brown and Bankers. They were, after all, the architecs of the mess we're in now.
