Ford updates Transit Connect & Courier for 2018

Ford Transit Connect 2018Due to make their UK debut at the 2018 CV Show alongside the new Transit Custom, the revised Transit Connect and Courier go on sale in the summer. With more than 20,000 sales between them so far in 2017, they are an important part of the Transit line-up, accounting for close to 25 per cent of total sales.

Transit Connect
Connect gets a new three-bar ‘Transit’ front grille, slimmer headlamp clusters, a more aerodynamic front splitter and higher spec models benefit from HID Xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights. An upgraded cab features a revised instrument panel and a new centre fascia panel that incorporates an optional floating, tablet-style 6.0in colour touchscreen on high series models, which comes complete with Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system.

Ford Transit Connect 2018It’s all-new under Connect’s bonnet with the choice of two new engines compliant with the latest Euro 6.2 emissions standards. There’s a 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel or a 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol up for grabs and both drive the front wheels via a new six-speed manual transmission. The former can also be specified with an eight-speed auto ’box and the latter benefits from cylinder deactivation, which enables it to run on two cylinders at low loads. Service intervals have been extended on both engines, with manual diesel models now offering variable intervals of up to two years/25,000 miles.

Revised Transit Connect introduces optional driver-assistance features to the range, including Intelligent Speed Limiter — enables automatic adjustment of maximum speed to remain within legal limits — a Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection emergency braking system, Side Wind Stabilisation and Active Park Assist that helps to steer the vehicle into both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.

Transit Courier
Ford Transit Courier 2018Courier’s updates are not quite as comprehensive as those of its Transit brother, but it does get the same new engines, a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a refreshed front-end appearance that incorporates a reshaped grille opening. A new fuel-efficiency package is offered as standard on diesel models, which integrates optimised aerodynamics with an Active Grille Shutter that improves warm-up times and reduces aero-drag.

The cab features a redesigned centre console for enhanced ergonomics, including a new, larger six-inch colour touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC 3 communications and entertainment system that is available as an option on higher series models, and is positioned closer to the driver for improved visibility and ease-of-use.

Ford is updating the entire Transit range over the next 18 months, starting with Custom, followed by Connect and Courier mid-2018 and we can expect to see the revised Transit late 2018/early 2019. “Ford’s latest Transit family has taken the European market by storm and we have no intention of taking our foot off the gas,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Commercial Vehicles, Ford of Europe. “We’ve given our two smaller Transits a complete overhaul that makes them even more affordable to run, more stylish to look at, and ready to tackle every job our customers throw at them.”
