Heavyweight Dailys tip the scales for Colas
South coast maintenance company Colas has taken delivery of four 70C17 EcoDaily tippers to help take care of Portsmouth City Council’s highways infrastructure.Among the first Daily 7.0-tonners to go into operation in the UK they replace a fleet of 3.5-tonners. Colas has previous experience of Daily 6.5-tonners, but moving up the weight scale means that the new workhorses can cope with payloads up to an impressive 3,660kg.
The EcoDaily's classification as an Environmentally friendly Enhanced Vehicle (EEV) means it goes one step further than Euro 5, enabling Colas to operate vehicles far cleaner than the minimum legal standard.
Due to stay in service for five years and covering some 100,000 miles the Dailys are mounted with Charlton tipper bodies and feature a body-mounted toolbox.
“Trading up to the new 7.0 tonne EcoDaily delivers a healthy payload increase over our previous 6.5-tonners while keeping the vehicle's footprint identical,” commented Trevor Purfield, national plant and transport manager at Colas. “In comparison with our 3.5 tonne tippers it ensures we have the flexibility to carry heavier items such as paving stones to a site without having to make multiple trips in the same vehicle.”
