Hiace falls foul of Euro 5 emissions regs
Toyota seems to have taken its eye off the panel van ball. The Hiace will be dropped from its UK LCV line-up — and presumably from all western European territories — at the end of the year due to non-compliance with Euro 5 emission regulations. Hiace has a dedicated following in the UK and this news will come as a massive disappointment. Anyone looking to upgrade to a new one had better be quick about it.According to Toyota, this will be a temporary situation and it’s investigating alternatives. What is quite astonishing is that for such a large global motor manufacturer it not only hasn’t re-engineered the current 2.0-litre to meet Euro 5, but doesn’t have another diesel it can slot in at an appropriate price point. Maybe it’s just too focused on selling passenger cars?
There’s no news on the fate of the Dyna, but one thing we do know for sure is that the future of the Hilux is safe in the UK (see News Story).
