Kinishi adds biometric ID to FleetSure
Telematics specialists Kinishi is now offering remotely managed fingerprint identification as an option for its FleetSure vehicle tracking and fleet management system.
“PIN codes and tags are not an optimum method of identifying drivers,” says Alex Goldstone, Kinishi’s chief technical officer. “FleetSure supports PIN codes and RFID/iButton tags where appropriate, but Kinishi is the only supplier providing true driver accountability and remotely managed vehicle security using biometric (fingerprint) identification which is fast, reliable and has none of the downsides of a PIN code or tag. Drivers do not need to remember PINs and they are accountable for their actions because people cannot exchange or steal fingers like they can a code or tag.”
Some high-end security systems do already incorporate biometric identification, but FleetSure is unique in enabling a dispatch office to manage which drivers can start any combination of cars, vans or HGVs in the fleet irrespective of the driver or vehicles’ locations.
Usage times and other restrictions can be imposed at the company’s discretion and driver performance including harsh acceleration, harsh braking, excessive idling, speeding offences and private mileage can all be monitored.
Kinishi can be found on stand 5241 at the 2010 Commercial Vehicle Operator Show at the NEC, Birmingham, 13-15 April.
