LCV registrations remain buoyant in March
Registration figures, supplied by the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders, of light commercial vehicles up to 3.5t for March show a year-on-year increase of 27 per cent compared to 2010. That makes it 14 positive months on the trot. The year-to-date figure is even more impressive at 31 per centFord, as usual, topped the leader board with sales of 12,284, marketshare of 28 per cent. Next up is Vauxhall with a 13 per cent share of 5,843 registrations. Volkswagen completes the top three with 4,221 vans shifted, representing 10 per cent of the market.
Sales of vans over 3.5t continue to falter with a disastrous month-on-month drop of 31 per cent; just 804 registered. The year-to-date figures show a drop of 21 per cent.
Truck sales continue to show an impressive improvement with 7,794 finding a home, a year-to-date increase of 46 per cent. Daf Trucks leads the way with a 22 per cent market share.
“March delivered continued recovery in van and truck registrations, with 3,5t vans and artic tractors leading the way,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT Chief Executive. “Other sectors did well, but there are more signs of demand dropping for light and medium vans and trucks as the market polarises, driven by the need for the greater operating efficiency of maximum capacity vehicles.”
