LCV sales recovery holds for first half of 2011

smmt-logo-2011Official Society of Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) figures for registrations of LCVs up to 3.5t in June were 22,850 which equates to a month-on-month rise of 13.5 per cent compared to 2010. Year-to-date sales continue to look very healthy with 133,238 vehicles shifted, an increase of 24.2 per cent over the same period last year.

Ford, Vauxhall and Volkswagen took the top three slots respectively in June, continuing the year-to-date trend. Ford currently holds a 27.3 per cent market share with Vauxhall at 13.8 per cent and VW on 11.4 per cent. Pick-ups and 4x4s are showing the biggest year-to-date improvement compared to 2010; the former are up 43.5 per cent, the latter 41.8 per cent.

“June saw the 17th successive monthly rise for new van registrations, up by 13 per cent in the month, demonstrating business confidence and commitment in the commercial vehicle market,” said Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive. “Truck figures also rose, up by seven per cent, the ninth successive monthly rise. Again, articulated trucks saw the most robust growth in the month and year-to-date figures for almost every sector were up significantly on 2010.”
