Low CO2 new-look Corsavan hits the streets
Vauxhall’s revised Corsavan ecoFLEX line-up, distinguished from its predecessor by a new front-end treatment and updated cab, includes a 95hp 1.3CDTi model which claims the lowest CO2 figure in its sector when fitted with Start/Stop; 95g/km and a combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 78.3mpg.London congestion taxpayers shouldn’t get too excited, however. Although the passenger car with the same emission levels is exempt, the light commercial version is not.
The impressively low CO2 output has been achieved thanks to a number of efficiency improvements, including a variable geometry turbocharger, lowered chassis, aerodynamic wheel covers and optimised gear ratios for the five-speed manual gearbox. The instrument cluster includes a ‘shift up’ indicator.
It’s also been fitted with an enhanced starter motor, a high performance battery and Electric Power Management system. An additional water pump keeps the cabin warm in cold weather during the stop phase. The Start/Stop system can be de-activated via a dash-mounted button, but we can’t see why this would ever be necessary. The new Corsavan range also includes 75hp ecoFLEX versions of the same engine (112g/km, dropping to 105g/km with Start/Stop) as well as a 95hp Sportive model mated to a six-speed ’box. A 1.2-litre petrol powerplant is on offer for those wishing to run on LPG.
Corsavan’s load-carrying abilities remain unchanged with a gross payload of 550kg and a tad under 1.0m3 of space.
Basic prices start at £10,745 for the petrol and £11,560 for the diesels, rising to £12,200 for the 95hp ecoFLEX and topping out at £12,750 for the Sportive.
