Manheim hits the ground running in 2016


Manheim Remarketing ShepshedManheim Remarketing had a storming start to 2016. Not only did it have a blinding January with many sales recording conversion rates in excess of 80 per cent, but it also opened its new Shepshed Commercials auction centre, just off the M1 close to Loughborough.

Both in terms of units sold and the proportion — one in three — of vehicles sold online, eight per cent higher than the previous year, Manheim hit an all-time high in 2015. The commercial vehicle buyer base seen in the auction halls and online was also up on the previous year, by 15 per cent, and many of these new buyers contributed to the online sales success.

On 11 January, Manheim held its inaugural sale at its new Shepshed auction centre, which benefited from a seven-figure investment prior to re-opening (see Video Interview with James Davis, director of Commercial Vehicles, below). The Shepshed launch sale produced an 82 per cent conversion rate with 269 buyers in attendance. More than 150 vans were sold, with a combined sale value of almost £1m.

Shepshed will act as a template as the business moves forward and once the work is completed it will have a fully functional preparation centre as well as a state of the art video/photographic facility. As the online side of the business expands it’s important to provide those buyers with as much information as possible.

Manheim ShepshedThere’s a light commercial vehicle auction every Monday at Shepshed, with the heavy commercials (truck, trailer and plant) going under the hammer every other Thursday. Following its success in 2015, Manheim’s Gloucester Commercials site now has two sales per week, each featuring more than 250 LCVs. The new sale will take place on Tuesday at 2pm and is the UK’s only afternoon commercial vehicle sale.

Looking ahead Davock commented: “The market place has been extremely strong from the start of the year, with Manheim auction halls being packed with buyers and online flashing away. There have been very healthy attendances at all our seven CV auction centres, with buyers out in force to purchase after a December that was relatively starved of stock.
