Our Verdict
Due to go on sale late 2012/early 2013, the Renault Kangoo-based Citan is going to ruffle some feathers in the light van market.
Very few specific details are known about the Citan, other than that it's based on Renault's Kangoo. Mercedes engineers have been over it with a fine toothcomb, implimenting changes where necessary. After all, the Citan will have a three-pointed star taking pride of place in the centre of its grille and that brings with it certain expectations from customers. It must look, feel and drive like a Merc.It will be built alongside Kangoo at Renault's plant in the north of France and Merc will have its own quality control area at the end of the line. Power will come from Renault's 1.5dCi engine. As, and when, we find out more information about Citan we will update this page. It looks as though the run-up to the launch will be punctuated by informational drip-feeding and it will be 'teased' at the Amsterdam CV Show in April, but it will be conspicuous by its absense at the UK CV Show the following week. The public debut will take place at the IAA Hanover CV Show in September.
