Mercedes vans get a grip with winter tyres
With severe winter weather forecast for the third consecutive year, Mercedes-Benz dealers are offing a full winter tyre service for its van customers. Offering winter tyres from brands like Continental and Pirelli, the Cold Weather Programme also includes a full fitting and tyre management service.Tests carried out by Continental has shown that when the temperature falls below 7°C Cold Weather tyres can deliver a 50 per cent improvement in traction compared to normal radials. Data has also demonstrated that when travelling on normal radials in icy conditions at 20mph, it could take an extra 12 yards (11 metres), or three car lengths, to come to a stop. Braking distance using Cold Weather tyres can be reduced by 10 per cent on cold, wet surfaces and as much as 50 per cent on ice and snow. Additionally, Cold Weather tyres offer a 20 per cent improvement in wear rate when compared to normal tyres if driving on snow- and ice-covered roads.
Prices for a complete set of Cold Weather tyres and steel wheels for a Vito 113 CDi start at £700 plus fitting. Merc also offers the option to store summer tyres either at a business’s premises or as part of the dealer network storage programme.
