Movano chassis cabs cut the mustard
Grounds maintenance company John O’ Connor has taken delivery of 13 specially converted Vauxhall Movano chassis cab conversions. The combination of Movano’s low chassis kerb weight and a weight-saving dropside conversion provided by BL Searle mean that even with a large mower on the back the GVW remains under 3.5 tonnes; negating the need to use a trailer and a tachograph.By removing the sides, tailgate and headboard from the body, the conversion provides a gross payload of 1,600kg. That’s enough to cope with a large mower, which by law now has to be fitted with a heavy roll-over bar to protect the operator. During the winter months the Movanos can revert to being used as a traditional dropside.
All the new vehicles are speed-restricted to 60mph for improved fuel consumption, lower emissions and a reduction in maintenance costs. Most of them will be used on the Isle of Wight where the company has recently won a nine-year contract with the council to deliver a range of horticultural services.
