New VW Caddy arrives in UK showrooms
Volkswagen has begun delivering the latest and heavily updated Euro 5 incarnations of its Caddy and Caddy Maxi to customers. Backed by an extensive advertising campaign using the ‘Brilliant Made Better’ strap-line they also get their own online microsite which includes an interactive guide to the new models.The front-end has been redesigned to bring it more in line with other VWs, the cab has been updated and there’s a new range of 1.6- and 2.0-litre TDI engines. The former can be had at 75hp (225Nm) and 102hp (250Nm) driving the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The latter offers a choice of 110hp (280Nm) or 140hp (320Nm) and a six-speeder.
VW’s excellent DSG semi-auto ’box can be specified with the 102hp 1.6TDI (seven-speed) and additionally on Caddy Maxi with the 140hp 2.0TDI, although this time it’s the six-speeder. An all-wheel drive 4MOTION Maxi also features on the price list.‘Eco’ models featuring low-CO2 BlueMotion Technology can be ordered with either of the 1.6TDIs under the bonnet and there’s the option of 109hp (160Nm) 2.0-litre EcoFuel variants; these run on either petrol or compressed natural gas.
All Caddys come with full ABS/ESP as standard — including Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Traction Control System (TCS) and engine drag torque control (MSR) — remote central locking with deadlocking and a Thatcham-approved alarm. Daytime running lights also feature, as required by legislation on all new models from 1 January 2011.With load space of 3.2m3 — rising to 4.2m3 for the Maxi — Caddy payloads range from 620kg to 753kg. Basic prices (excl VAT) start at £12,100 for the 75hp C20 1.6TDI and top-out at £17,050 for the 110hp Maxi C20 2.0TDI 4MOTION.
