Nissan begins real-world electric NV200 trials
Due to go on sale in 2013, the zero emission battery-powered version of Nissan’s NV200 has started real-world testing in Japan. The first stage of the lengthy test schedule is being undertaken in conjunction with Japan Post Service. An e-NV200 is being used in Yokohama for two months to carry out normal delivery and collection services to evaluate just how well the current development stage stands up to the rigours of real-world usage. Similar evaluations will be carried out with other companies in both Japan and Europe in the future.
“The role that can be played by zero emission vehicles in promoting a balance between economic growth and environmental protection in the realm of logistics is large,” said Hideto Murakami, Nissan’s corporate vice president responsible for the Global LCV Business Unit. “We will certainly reflect the customer feedback gained from these proving tests in our future product development.”
Long-term, Nissan’s aim is to become a leader in the field of EVs, along with Alliance partner Renault, and it’s off to a good start with the LEAF passenger car. It’s not just interested in producing vehicles, however, and is investing vast resources into battery technology, charging infrastructure equipment and the development of on-board hybrid charging systems.
