Nissan pulls covers off Interstar replacement

nv400-han2The all-new NV400 panel van was unveiled officially at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover.

Based on its Alliance partner Renault’s new Master, Nissan’s NV400 will replace the current Interstar when it goes on sale in the UK next summer.

Originally, Nissan intended to develop its own unique platform for this sector of the global market, as it did with the much smaller NV200, but the melt-down of the financial sector two years ago effectively put paid to this. It made much more financial sense to base the new model range on an existing bang-up-to-date platform.

To separate the NV400 from the Master — also sold by Opel/Vauxhall as the Movano — Nissan has applied its own design DNA to the front-end treatment of the new model. Using the expertise of the UK-based Nissan Design Europe and Nissan Technical Centre Europe, it has come up with a very distinct appearance. NV400 has a unique bonnet, front wings, grille and bumper assembly.

NV400 will use the same Renault powertrains as the Master and will be available in a choice of front- or rear-wheel drive, depending on application. Apart from badges and trim, the cab will also be the same.

Commenting at the press launch Gilles Normand, corporate vice president of Nissan Motor Company, said: “In front of you is Nissan’s response to the customers that need a reliable and capable van. We present today the NV400 in its quasi-final production version, which offers a distinct and genuine design.”
