Olympics transport chaos on the horizon
With fewer than twelve months to go before Olympics chaos hits London, the logistics sector is unprepared, says the Freight Transport Association (FTA).An FTA survey reveals that fewer than five per cent of respondents feel ‘totally prepared’ to deal with the inevitable disruption presented to the supply chain by the London Olympics and Paralympics in 2012. Companies delivering goods and providing services in London are set for three months of traffic chaos in the capital; regardless of what the government and organisers say.
According to the FTA a lack of information from government agencies has left the vast majority of logistics providers in and around London feeling unprepared for the arrival of the chaos. In the absence of details regarding specific road restrictions during the event, the FTA is advising industry that it needs to do all it can to prepare for an intensely busy three-month period when there will effectively be more to deliver and less time to deliver it in.
Natalie Chapman, FTA’s head of policy for London, said: “Commercial vehicle operators need to know which roads will be affected and in what ways. For example, will left hand turns be banned or will loading and unloading restrictions be imposed? How else can they be expected to keep up with the additional strain on demand that the Olympics is set to bring?”

And we are sure that everyone is going to be really pleased to pay to sit in all this congestion; the Congestion Tax remains in place during the running, jumping and skipping.
