Online Fair Fuel UK petition gains momentum
With fuel prices, and diesel in particular, ever rising it’s time for the transport industry to take a stand. And that includes van as well as truck operators. The rise in VAT to 20 per cent doesn’t really affect the industry, but the price of a barrel of crude and the fuel duty escalator most certainly do. And with the government threatening to hike the duty by another 1p/litre (nearly 5p/gallon) in April something has to be done. Fuel duty is currently running at 46 per cent of a litre of fuel, the highest in Western Europe.
Peter Carroll — the chap behind last year’s Gurkha Campaign — has set up an online petition to put pressure on the government. Both the Road Haulage Association and Freight Transport Association have given it their full endorsement.
VansA2Z supports the campaign fully and urges all its readers to take a minute and sign the petition.
Private car drivers should be even more concerned. When VAT is applied it’s to the cost of the fuel AND the fuel duty. Value Added Tax on a tax; what a rip-off.
