Paneltex breaks the ice with Eskimo

Eskimo Ice, the biggest supplier of ice products in central London, is replacing its 16-strong fleet of temperature-controlled panel vans with 3.5 tonne chassis cabs fitted with Paneltex refrigerated box bodies. The new vehicles have a much improved payload potential of 1,160kg.

So far six Nissan Cabstar and two Toyota Dyna conversions have been delivered, each featuring a 2.8m Paneltex body capable of operating at -18°C. Fitted with a GAH direct drive refrigeration system they feature full aperture double rear barn doors with an emergency release button, a pull-out rear access step and a single nearside door.

“Ice products are traditionally quite heavy and we felt that the switch to a box-bodied vehicle would not only increase the payload possible, but also give us a longer working life for our vehicles,” commented Eskimo managing partner, Gavin Marks.
