Racing Transits hit the streets of Portugal
Now we’ve seen it all. Believe it or not there’s a national one-make racing series for Transits taking place in Portugal.
The Ford Transit Trophy kicked off in Vila Real, a street circuit in the north of Portugal, with eight Transits on the grid. It was a clean sweep for team Daro, with experienced racing driver Rui Azevedo taking the chequered flag in both the Saturday and Sunday races.
The Transit Trophy was proposed to Ford Portugal by one of its national suppliers, QF, which among other things also sells racing equipment and performance upgrades, as well as being Pirelli representatives in Portugal.
Ford Portugal supports the trophy and all the Transits taking part are based on the front-wheel drive 140hp 260S 2.2TDCi model. Safety equipment like a roll cage is fitted, the brakes and suspension are upgraded and the engine output is boosted to 180hp.
The remaining six rounds take place on:
16 – 17 July Algarve Circuit
24 – 25 July Braga Circuit
03 – 05 September Caramulo Hill Climb
02 – 03 October Estoril Circuit
13 – 14 November Algarve Circuit
