Revised Volkswagen Crafter arrives in UK
The revised Volkswagen Crafter has arrived in the UK. It gets a re-worked front-end and a new range of 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TDI engines derived from those used in the Amarok and Transporter. And VW is heavily promoting the fuel-efficiency benefits; particularly the models with BlueMotion Technology.Available with power outputs of 109hp, 136hp, 143hp (joins the line-up in November) and 163hp, as well as BlueMotion Technology models offering further savings in fuel costs and emissions, the new Crafters deliver the same or higher levels of torque at lower engine speeds than the previous five-cylinder, 2.5-litre BlueTDI engine.
As an example, the new 163hp BlueMotion Technology 3.5 tonne, medium wheelbase panel van achieves 29 per cent better fuel consumption on the combined cycle than the previous equivalently powered 2.5-litre BlueTDI engine. This equates to up to eight miles/per gallon further, which could add over 130 miles to the range of the 75 litre fuel tank.
Emissions have dropped across the range by between 10 and nearly 20 per cent. The aforementioned new 163hp Crafter has CO2 emissions of 199g/km, compared to 258g/km for its predecessor. And new Crafter achieves these low Euro 5 emissions without the need for AdBlue, an additive necessary in the previous BlueTDI engines, yet still qualifies for EEV (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) status as standard.Revised Crafter will be available for test drives at VW Van Centres from 1 August and as well as a range of panel vans it can be had as a window van, chassis cab, chassis crew cab, Dropside, Tipper, Luton and there’s a Minibus in the pipeline.
