Surprisingly competent off-road, torquey diesel and independent rear suspension makes it a smooth-rider on-road.
SsangYong has entered the pick-up market in the UK with the four-wheel drive Korando Sports and despite having a payload of under 650kg it will be registered as a light commercial vehicle. VAT will only be recoverable if used solely for business purposes.
Powered by SsangYong’s 2.0-litre e-XDi Active turbodiesel, Korando Sports produces maximum power of 155hp and develops peak torque of 360Nm from as low as 1,500rpm. There's a choice of six-speed manual transmission or a sophisticated auto 'Tiptronic' gearbox and four-wheel drive is selectable via a turn-knob on the dashboard. A set of low range gears are provided for serious terrain.
A full set of accessories are available from launch, including a tow bar kit and very neat roll-cover and moulded hard top.
A full Review & Buyers' Guide will be published shortly.
