SsangYong SUT-1 pick-up ready to roll
Following the unveiling of the SUT-1 Concept at the Geneva Salon earlier this year (see News Story) a production-ready SUT-1 debuted on the SsangYong stand at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.Due to go on sale in the UK early next year, the SUT-1 is a five-seater double cab pick-up aimed at the sports activity market, but that doesn’t mean it won’t find favour in the light commercial sector. The only real downside is that according to the data supplied so far, it has a gross payload of around 750kg, meaning that it will be registered in the UK as a passenger car.
Available with a choice of rear- or electronically selectable four-wheel drive and either a six-speed manual or auto gearbox, SUT-1 is powered by a 2.0-litre Euro 5 turbodiesel. Capable of producing 155hp it develops peak torque of 360Nm across a 1,500rpm to 2,800rpm plateau. A diesel particulate filter is included in the package. The rear-wheel drive manual model has the best official combined cycle fuel consumption at 39.8mpg which equates to CO2 emissions of 186g/km. These rise to 35.3mpg and 211g/km respectively for the four-wheel drive auto derivative.
Standard specification is set to be high with ESP (including Active Rollover Protection), dual front airbags, air con, electric windows and door mirrors (folding), a bluetooth-enabled audio system, daytime running lights and cruise control among the features. What isn’t known at this stage is whether a low-spec ‘commercial’ model will be made available in the UK. Due to the low payload it’s probably unlikely.
