VW Amarok BlueMotion gets green light
Volkswagen has announced details of the Amarok BlueMotion at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It will be available early in 2012 and comes complete with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a towing weight boosted to 3,200kg. Based around the 4MOTION permanent four-wheel drive system, the new drivetrain also boasts the most powerful 2.0BiTDI diesel in the range. The new engine produces 180hp, develops 420Nm of peak torque and has an official combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 37.2mpg which equates to 199g/km of CO2. Eighth gear is an overdrive for low-rev motorway cruising; the top speed of 111 is reached in seventh gear.
As part of the BlueMotion package Amarok also benefits from battery regeneration, low rolling resistance tyres and a Stop/Start system. As there’s no clutch it operates via the brake pedal. Keep the pedal pressed when at a stop and the engine cuts out; release the brake and it re-starts automatically. That’s going to please anyone behind in a car on a dark, rainy night as they’re blinded by the eye-level brake lights!
Prices for the latest additions to the Amarok line-up will be announced closer to availability.
