VW Amarok picks up first international award
Despite not going on sale in the UK until spring next year, VW’s all-new and first in-house developed one tonne pick-up — it sold a re-badged Toyota Hilux as the Taro for a couple of years — has lifted the inaugural International Pickup of the Year Award for 2011.The trophy was handed over at the recent IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hannover and was voted for by the same panel of specialist journalists from 23 countries who decided on the Fiat Doblò (see News Story) as the winner of the International Van of the Year 2011 trophy.
Commenting on the award the jury said: “The new Volkswagen Amarok distinguishes itself by fantastic driving qualities, both on- and off-road. It sets new standards in the pick-up category in respect to load capacity, payload, interior room, comfort, ergonomics and fuel consumption.”
UK pricing and specifications will be released closer to the launch, but in the meantime anyone wanting more information or wishing to register an interest in buying one of the first Amaroks in the country should visit here.
