Volkswagen’s all-new Crafter has taken the top honours in the VansA2Z Van of the Year 2017 awards as well as being voted Best Large Panel Van of the Year 2017. The trophies were handed over at a lunch attended by the great and the good from the light commercial vehicle industry and held at the home of British rugby, Twickenham Stadium, on 2 March.
The judges praised the new generation Crafter — the first one that’s 100 per cent VW and is built at a brand new production plant in Poland — for raising the bar in just about every department for its sector of the market. Drivetrains, refinement and handling are all superb and it feels solid as a rock. Add to this extensive use of the latest active safety, driver aid and connected infotainment technologies, and the end result is a real winner.
New Crafter is making its UK debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2017 (25 – 27 April, NEC, Birmingham) with customer deliveries of front-wheel drive models beginning in May. Rear-wheel drive, 4MOTION and automatic transmission variants will follow later in the year, along with a range of chassis cabs and factory-fitted conversions, including minibuses.
