VW Vans boss to head-up VW Group in Ireland
Simon Elliott, director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in the UK, has been promoted to the role of managing director of VW Group Ireland. He will take up the new position in August and as well as CVs he will also be overseeing the well-being of VW’s passenger cars, Audi, SEAT and Skoda.“I have really enjoyed the last three years with Commercial Vehicles and am really proud to have achieved record volumes and market share, grown brand awareness and leadership in customer care, and forged a fantastic relationship with everyone in our Van Centre Network,” commented Elliott. “I am very flattered to be offered this position and looking forward to taking on my new role.”
Robin Woolcock, Managing Director of Volkswagen Group UK, and himself a former director of CVs for VW, said: “This is a great opportunity for Simon and I have every confidence he will take his energy, drive and humour to Ireland and make a superb impact, in the same way he has done here. It is obviously disappointing to lose Simon from Commercial Vehicles where he has made a significant difference to the success of the brand over the past three years. I would like to wish Simon success and happiness in his new role, and for his family, as they settle into their new lives in Ireland.” Woolcock will take leadership responsibility for VW CVs in the UK until a new director is appointed.
Elliott is competing in this year’s Volkswagen Cup racing series in the Caddy Racer and plans to complete all the remaining rounds, despite the promotion and consequent geographical shift. Click here for a video report from the last round of the series at Snetterton.
