VW reveals UK Amarok line-up and prices
Volkswagen has published specification levels and pricing for its new Amarok pick-up, well ahead of the April launch date and its debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show. There are three trim levels — Startline, Trendline and Highline — with prices (excl VAT) starting at £16,995, 18,995 and £21,575 respectively.Available solely as a double cab from launch — single cabs will join the line-up at a later date — there’s a choice of two 2.0-litre turbodiesels. The TDI produces 122hp and develops peak torque of 340Nm while the high-power twin-turbo BiTDI powerplant manages 163hp and 400Nm.
An electronically selectable 4MOTION 4x4 system — rear-, four-wheel drive and low range — is available with all three trim levels, with the option of a permanent 4x4 system for the top-spec Highline. Opt for the former and Amarok gets uprated suspension to cope with serious off-roading and weighs in at 3,170kg with a payload in excess of 1,045kg.
Go for the highest spec Highlife with the Permanent system and the package includes ‘comfort’ suspension which uses a two-plus-one leaf spring set-up at the rear which is optimised for on-road use. It provides improved ride quality and refinement. This does mean, however, that payload drops to below 1,045kg, meaning that VAT is not reclaimable.Even entry-level Amaroks come with a high level of specification. It includes daytime running lights, six airbags, fully fledged ESP/ABS which includes traction control, an electronic diff lock, hill hold, hill descent control, trailer stability control and ABS mapping designed to reduce stopping distance on loose surfaces.
On top of this Startline brings with it 16in alloy wheels, electric front and rear windows, semi automatic air con and a single CD/radio.
Move up to Trendline and twin-zone automatic air con, cruise control, multifunction computer, leather-trimmed steering wheel/handbrake/gear knob and a RCD310 radio/CD player are brought to the party. Finishing touches include colour-coded mirrors, front bumper and wheelarch extensions, front fog lamps and 17in alloys.
On top of this, Highline adds front grille, door mirror and rear bumper chrome detailing, stainless steel side running bars, rear privacy glass and 18in alloys. Leather upholstery, heated front seats and rear parking sensors complete the package.
There are, of course, a host of additional extras to be found on the extensive options list.
