Peter Lee The LCV Hero Award was introduced 2015 to highlight individuals who go above and beyond in their pursuit of promoting the cause of light commercial vehicles. Last year it was awarded to Bob Sockl in recognition of his efforts in establishing and growing the Commercial Vehicle Show into an international event.
In the case of this year’s recipient it’s one make of van in particular that has literally become his life; the Ford Transit. Having run a very successful building business, Peter Lee took early retirement and now devotes his time to restoring, collecting memorabilia and extolling the virtues of the UK’s favourite van.
Founder and chairman of the Transit Van Owners Club, which he founded in 2005, Peter is a modest and generous man. To coincide with the Transit’s golden anniversary in 2015 he was the author of a definitive book — appropriately titled Ford Transit – Fifty Years — and announced that all the royalties would be donated to BEN, the automotive charity. A cheque for £1,000 was handed over during this year’s proceedings at Twickenham Stadium.
VansA2Z’s editor has interviewed Peter on several occasions, most recently at his house which has to be seen to be believed; not because of the architecture, but it’s shrine-like devotion to his obsession. Peter Lee is a more than worthy recipient of the VansA2Z LCV Hero award for 2106; take a look at this video if you’re in any doubt…
