VansA2Z takes the eco route in electric Nemo
We are taking part in the RAC Future Car Challenge eco run from Brighton to London on 6 November.Despite its name the event is open to electric, hybrid and low-emission internal combustion engine (up to 110g/km of CO2) light commercials and motorcycles, as well as passenger cars, and we have been offered the chance to drive a Nicholson McLaren electric Citroën Nemo, one of the two entered.
The challenge is to complete the event using the least amount of energy and there will be medals for the winners in each category, as well as an overall champion. Measuring equipment will be fitted to each vehicle.
The Nemo will feature on the VansA2Z/Nicholson McLaren stand at the Eco2 Transport Show, being held at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre from 16 – 18 November. We are using the show to launch our new web site, ecoVansA2Z, which will deal specifically with alternative drivetrain and low carbon light commercials.
Nicholson McLaren is well known for its Citroën, Ford and Peugeot van LPG conversions and has branched out into battery power with the development of the electric Nemo. Recently, a fleet of 150 Citroën dual fuel LGP/petrol Berlingo and Dispatch vans converted by Nicholson McLaren have helped London's Southwark Council to the title of Public Sector Fleet of the Year at the GreenFleet 2010 awards. The RAC Future Car Challenge sets off from Madeira Drive in Brighton at 08.30 and finishes in Pall Mall at around 12.30. From there the vehicles join the entrants for the classic London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, taking place the following day, in Regent Street.
Other vans taking part in the eco run include a Ford Transit Connect Electric, Fiesta Van ECOnetic, MaxEV VW Caddy Maxi Electric and even a Zytek battery-powered Mercedes Vito Taxi.
VansA2Z and the Nemo beat all-comers.
