Vauxhall takes top honours in security awards

The 2011 British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards (BIVSA) have named Vauxhall as the best overall van manufacturer. Established in 2004, the BIVSA recognise those manufacturers who have produced the most secure commercial vehicles and cars, and are based on the New Vehicle Security Ratings scheme.

The categories and judging process have been developed jointly by the Automobile Association, the Department for Transport, the Home Office and Thatcham, and are supported by UK insurers.

“The standard of security across the ranges of all the major vehicle manufacturers continues to impress,” said Mike Briggs, vehicle security manager at Thatcham. “Picking a winner in each of our categories has become increasingly difficult as security across the board improves year on year.”

Steve Bryant, Vauxhall’s commercial vehicle brand manager said: “It’s fantastic news that Vauxhall has been honoured for the security of its commercial vehicle range. This prestigious award shows Vauxhall has some of the most secure commercial vehicles on the market, giving peace of mind to both our customers and insurers alike.”

“The sustained reduction in the number of vehicle thefts demonstrates the progress that has been made and these awards reflect the high priority security continues to have for all vehicle manufacturers,” commented Paul Everitt, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders.
