ecoFLEX takes Corsavan to new CO2 lows
Vauxhall has upgraded Corsavan’s engines to low-CO2 Euro 5 ecoFLEX spec and added the option of a Start/Stop package.Take the £220 Start/Stop option — a first for a Vauxhall light commercial and includes a Diesel Particulate Filter — on the new 75hp 1.3CDTi and according to official figures it’s capable of returning 70.6mpg on the combined cycle. That’s a 12 per cent improvement over the previous Euro 4 version of the engine.
CO2 emissions are also improved and drop by 14g/km to 105g/km. Start/Stop comes into its own in the congested streets of towns and cities, and means that it’s possible to see an urban cycle figure of 58.9mpg; an improvement of 18 per cent. Without the system fitted it returns 53.3mpg with a CO2 output of 112g/km.
Start/Stop cuts the engine when the Corsavan is stationary in neutral with the clutch released and re-starts it automatically when the clutch is depressed. To cope with the additional strain and uprated starter motor and battery are fitted in combination with a Power Management System.
An additional benefit of the Euro 5 1.3CDTi is that it gains 20Nm of torque, taking it to a very healthy 190Nm. Other Euro 5 engine options are a 1.2-litre petrol (124g/km) and a 95hp (115g/km) version of the 1.3-litre diesel which is specific to the Sportive model.
Basic prices (excl VAT) for the revised ecoFLEX range start at £10,455 for the 1.2i and go up to £12,460 for the Sportive. Undoubtedly the 1.3CDTi will be the most popular choice and this goes for £11,270.
